                      Safety Rated

WHAT  DOES  CONTRACT GRADE MEAN?

"Contract-Grade" refers to fabrics which are specifically rated for fire safety, and are especially high-performance (ie: durable, lasting) for commercial use such as events and hospitality -- compliant to  Canadian Consumer Protection Safety Act legislation.

Contract fabrics should be the only  choice for film and theatre, since their safety ratings guard against spontaneous disasters easily caused by electrical sparks and heat from lighting and other rigging.

Designer Contract-Grade Decorating Fabrics

"Contract-Grade" refers to fabrics which are rated for fire safety, and are especially high-performance (ie: durable, lasting) for use in commercial industry settings such as events and hospitality. These fabrics are also an ideal choice for film and theatre, since their safety ratings prevent spontaneous disasters easily caused by electrical sparks and heat from lighting and other rigging.

While 100% polyester fabrics have been generally accepted as "fire-safe", for that they tend to melt rather than catch flame-- this is not entirely true. Polyester can and will catch flame according to circumstances of the ignition and also the qualities/design of the fabric itself. For instance, since fire requires oxygen, a more loosely woven polyester is more flammable than one which is tightly woven. While many drapery fabrics also incorporate cotton for enhancing the effect of its drape, the cotton fibre even in small amounts greatly promotes the inherent flammability of the fabric.

Contract-grade drapery fabrics, and especially those which include natural fibres for the drape, are chemically treated for fire-proofing. The Canadian Consumer Protection and Safety Act requires textile products for commercial use to comply to fire-safety regulations in order to prevent horrific and deadly disasters. "Contract grade" fabrics should be the only acceptable standard for any type of production/event use.
